Circus Tricks Necklace Inspired by Alexander Calder’s mobiles and jewelry. The needle woven beaded beads are free spinning on their own tube, or little stage. Creative metal fabrication techniques allow the necklace components to dance with the movement of the body, reminiscent of juggling balls and circus acrobats. Sterling silver, 18 karat gold, pearls & glass. Metal fabrication & needle weaving. 16.5” x 2.5” x .5”
My Story
Metal fabrication, ancient bead weaving and Japanese braiding techniques are used, either separately or in combination with each other, for my jewelry designs. Alexander Calder’s mobiles and jewelry inspires my use of movement, which gives each piece a sense of play. I want my jewelry to not only be attractive, but fun to wear. Creating jewelry with such an unusual combination of tools, ranging from a needle and thread to a fiery torch, stretches the limits of my imagination for both the design process and fabrication. Some of my innovations are soon to be published in a book, which details the making of jewelry using traditional fiber braiding techniques.
